“All the nations will be gathered in his presence, and he will separate the people as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will place the sheep at his right hand and the goats at his left.”
Matthew 25:32-33 NLT
Ever heard of the term G.O.A.T (Greatest of All Time)? It's like the ultimate compliment, right? Well, let me tell you, I'm the kind of person who notices the little things that most people overlook. One way God gets my attention is through these subtle nudges, like divine elbow pokes. Now, isn't it funny how in our world, being the goat is the ultimate goal, but being called a sheep is like, "Oh no, not the woolly one!" Yet, in Matt. 25:32-33, God flips the script and gives sheep the VIP treatment over goats.
The Nature of The Sheep and Goat
These two animals are pretty similar since they're both super smart and social. But goats stand out because they're more independent, while sheep tend to rely on each other and their shepherd.
Adopting the Nature of a Sheep
Learn to listen and follow The Shepherd. “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me,”
John 10:27-28 NLT
Be wise and gentle and know that you have enemies. ““Look, I am sending you out as sheep among wolves. So be as shrewd as snakes and harmless as doves.”
Matthew 10:16 NLT
Be teachable. "Jesus saw the huge crowd as he stepped from the boat, and he had compassion on them because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things."
Mark 6:34 NLT
Conclusion
In the scriptures, goats symbolize those who will not enter heaven, while sheep represent those who will be with The Father forever. Let us be motivated to study the sheep in the Bible so we can cultivate a nature that pleases God.
